The Lake Eyre Yacht Club advises that due to ongoing incompetence and the lack of knowledge of city based public servants the following road information provided by the the South Australian Department of Transport & Infrastructure and the Department for Environment and Water
is unreliable or unreasonable.
The graphical depiction is inflexible and cannot display full and correct information. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU READ the text link which provides a more accurate picture.
For example:
- In 2018 the Birdsville Track was closed due to flooding when it wasn't flooded at all!
The flood was only on the Birdsville Development Road from the intersection of the Birdsville Track across the Diamantina to Birdsville.
At all times you could turn right at the end of the Track and drive East along the Developmental Road.
Consequently PIRSA closed Walkers Crossing unnecessarily when it was nowhere near flooding. This closed the Innamincka Birdsville Track tourist route for no valid reason.
- In 2019 the entire section of the Birdsville Track from Mungerannie to Birdsville was closed due to flooding when only the top half of this section was flooded.
Consequently PIRSA closed Walkers Crossing unnecessarily when it was nowhere near flooding. This closed the Innamincka Birdsville Track tourist route for no valid reason.
- On June 7 2019 the Birdsville Track had no towing on the graphic if you read the legend on the right,
however clicking on the Track in the graphic and the Text Report say towing is allowed. This has continued into September!
- October 9 2019 the graphic and the ABC radio road report DPTI staffer still say the Birdsville Track is 4WD only whereas the text report said it was open to all vehicles with caution, heavy vehicles to use bypass.
- February 2020 Diamantina Shire road report says Birdsville Inside Track is open whereas South Australian road report says it is closed due to flooding!
- March, April 2022 PIRSA refusing to open public access tracks (PARS) as they require 4WD despite being rated 4WD. PIRSA has not maintained any of these PARS for 5 years despite PARS being legislated as their responsibility. PAR#2 Level Post Bay has been closed since 2019 effectively halving Marrees tourist income. It appears they don't give a stuff! An email to the new independent state member Geoff Brock 6th April 22 had not remedied the situation. Following a meeting with Marree residents on Tues 19 July and media coverage it appears Brock has acted to open the PAR as it is not marked closed in the report dated 20 July. Apparently control of PARS has reverted to Dept. of
Climate, Environment and Water. The next task is to have them restore this track to its former condition.

with care!
